A L I E N

Ever get that somewhat subconscious feeling like you've already finished something you've never truly experienced in full? Well, that was me for quite a long time when it came to Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). I knew deep down that I've never fully seen both films, but part of me kept gaslighting me into believing that I had already done so.

Various reasons as to how I came to think that way set aside, I finally, only recently decided to give time to immerse myself in both... and, oh boi, I was in for one heck of a masterful ride, especially regarding the original! Yes, it seems I'm the type of individual that absolutely prefers the atmosphere, art direction, and overall tone and dread from the first film than the more action-oriented outing with the second film. Both are masterpieces in their own right, no doubt, but I just simply gravitate towards the former more so.

Anyway, I decided I'd try and do a simple sketch to show my utmost appreciation for the first film, directly inspired by one of my favorite moments of sheer dread and horror from it... and then I ended up so engrossed with the pre-production stage of setting up my reference board... and here we are now! My personal take on illustrating a lone XENOMORPH and its inevitable prey. Added my own creative spin on how it could possibly wait and stay still directly above a potential victim, too!
